Apple Antitrust Proceedings In EU To Start Soon

Apple
and other IT companies currently have to face a committee of the US Senate, for the company from Cupertino, California, could or is likely to face further antitrust problems in the near future. Because apparently, the EU is about to initiate proceedings against Apple.

The EU Commission is constantly tackling the size of the IT business, and Apple is likely to face a competition law investigation in Europe soon. This is not much different from the one that employs the lawyers and senior management of the group in the USA, because in the European Union it is also about the Apple rules that apply in the App Store of the Californian group.

Apple Tax And Others

As reported by the Financial Times, the intended proceedings against Apple can be traced back to a complaint from Spotify. Two years ago, the music streaming service officially complained to the EU that Apple was gaining numerous unfair advantages.

Of course, this primarily affects the notorious Apple tax, in which the company receives a 30 percent commission not only for app sales but also for any subscriptions that have been concluded. This also gives Apple unfair advantages, since its own streaming service naturally does not have to bear such costs. Apple also prohibits providers such as Spotify from referring to external offers on their own platform – so that you can find out, for example, that you can also take out a subscription externally.

In addition, there is nothing but new allegations that Apple also likes to copy ideas and get in the way of competing developers. Essentially, it is also about Apple applying two standards in many ways. Of course, Apple denies everything, at that time they attacked Spotify for their part.

But it looks as if one can or must present this point of view to a (further) competition authority – and it is definitely questionable whether Apple can get away with it.
