Apple Delays Personalized Siri Features: What You Need to Know

Apple has announced that the highly anticipated personalized Siri features have been delayed, leaving many iPhone users waiting a little longer for the upgrades.

What’s New?

As reported by 9to5Mac, Apple has quietly updated its website to inform customers about the delay. On all iPhone 16 product pages, Apple now includes the following note:

Siri’s personal context understanding, onscreen awareness, and in-app actions are in development and will be available with a future software update.

Similarly, the Apple Intelligence page has been updated with fine print below each delayed Siri feature:

This feature is in development and will be available with a future software update.

This isn’t the first time Apple has adjusted its messaging about the new features. Recently, the company removed references to personalized Siri functionality in certain areas of its website. Additionally, it hid an iPhone 16 Pro ad on its YouTube channel, where actress Bella Ramsey demonstrated the upcoming Siri enhancements.

Apple’s Official Statement

Last week, Apple addressed the delay in a formal statement, explaining that the team needs more time to complete the development of the new Siri features. Here’s the full statement:

Siri helps our users find what they need and get things done quickly, and in just the past six months, we’ve made Siri more conversational, introduced new features like type to Siri and product knowledge, and added an integration with ChatGPT. We’ve also been working on a more personalized Siri, giving it more awareness of your personal context, as well as the ability to take action for you within and across your apps. It’s going to take us longer than we thought to deliver on these features, and we anticipate rolling them out in the coming year.

When Will the Features Launch?

While Apple hasn’t provided a specific release date, the company aims to roll out the personalized Siri features “in the coming year.” Based on the iOS release cycle, we estimate these updates might debut between iOS 19 in September 2025 and iOS 19.4 in March 2026.

What to Expect from the Siri Upgrades

The new personalized Siri will bring significant improvements, such as:

  • Understanding personal context: Siri will be able to recognize your habits and preferences.
  • Onscreen awareness: Siri can respond based on what you’re currently doing on your device.
  • Deeper in-app controls: You’ll be able to use Siri to take actions across and within your apps.

During the WWDC 2024 keynote, Apple showcased these capabilities with an example: an iPhone user asked Siri about their mom’s flight and lunch reservation plans based on information pulled from Mail and Messages apps.

Supported Devices

The personalized Siri features will rely on Apple Intelligence and will only be available on select devices, including:

  • iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max
  • iPhone 16 lineup: iPhone 16e, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max
  • Upcoming iPhone 17 models, set to launch later this year

Stay tuned for more updates as Apple moves closer to launching these exciting new features. While the wait might be disappointing, it’s clear Apple is focused on delivering a polished and effective experience for its users.
