Apple Increases RAM Prices For MacBook Pro 13-inch

If you need more storage in the entry-level model of the portable professional Mac, you suddenly have to dig deeper.

What an unpleasant surprise for all users who are interested in Apple’s latest MacBook Pro: As can be seen from Apple’s own online shop, the (recommended) memory upgrade of the entry-level version of the 13-inch machine was made significantly more expensive in the short term. If you had to pay 125 euros beforehand, if you wanted the more sensible 16 GB instead of the standard 8 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3 RAM, it is now 250 euros.

The increase affects not only the European countries but also the United States ($100 surcharge), the United Kingdom (£100 more), and other regions of the world. Apple had equipped the MacBook Pro with a 13-inch screen at the beginning of May with an improved keyboard with scissors mechanism and – partly – added new internal processors from Intel and improved graphics chips.

The cheapest variant of the computer with a 1.4 GHz quad-core processor from Intel (i5 of the 8th generation), which delivers up to 3.9 GHz in Turbo Boost, costs 1500 euros. With the exception of the new keyboard, the entry-level model is based on its predecessor. Only more expensive models from 2130 euros come with 10th generation i5 or i7 chips.

Components became more expensive?

It is unclear why Apple is increasing the price of the RAM upgrade so much. However, the company tends to pass on higher component costs to its customers – although it is unusual for this to happen so soon after sales start. In addition, the price increase is also very high in the Apple comparison. MacBook Pro users are forced to purchase RAM from Apple. The modules are soldered to the mainboard as standard. In a short statement from Apple, it was said that the “price correction” was based on similar prices for other machines such as the iMac and the MacBook Air.
