Apple iPhone 14: suspected satellite function could save lives

The iPhone 14 and the Watch Series 8 could finally support satellite connections. The feature was already expected for the iPhone 13. Now there are signs that this year’s Apple iPhone series will get this feature – at least according to analyst Mark Gurman. According to the report, Apple is already working with satellite service provider Globalstar. Should that be the case, Apple will use Globalstar’s global satellite networks to send emergency alerts directly from the iPhone 14 or Apple Watch Series 8 to authorities.

The device would then be able to send the location to emergency services in an emergency without the need for a cellular connection. Obviously, the iPhone 14 and Watch Series 8 would only use the satellite function for remote location tracking, not as an alternative for cellular connectivity. Compared to satellite-capable devices, the need for bulky hardware such as modems in a smartphone or smartwatch doesn’t make sense. Of course, this satellite connection feature needs its own chip to work, so the previous iPhone or Watch models are not supported.

iPhone 14 Pro gets a rounder screen

Another news is that the iPhone 14 Pro could get a display with a different radius and therefore rounder corners. That would be done to accommodate a larger rear camera sensor, according to the latest unofficial rendering. The larger Pro Max is said to be unaffected by this change as it has more space in the case compared to the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro. Aside from the punch screen, the entire iPhone 14 range is expected to get the biggest selfie camera upgrade in many years. The Cupertino-based company could finally use an autofocus lens, unlike the fixed focus lens on current iPhone 13 devices. In terms of image quality, the sensor size could also see an increase in megapixel count.
