Apple Magic Keyboard With Touch ID Now Available Separately

Apple is now launching the accessories presented with the new iMacs for retail sales too. You can now buy a keyboard with Touch ID for another Mac – but the whole thing is not cheap and has a catch.

At the presentation of the M1-iMac, not only Apple’s new all-in-one computer was presented, but also the revised accessories. In addition to the new Magic Mouse, this also includes the Magic Keyboard, which has also supported Touch ID since then. This did not previously exist for the Apple desktop computers. Mac users with an M1 MacBook who wanted to use the keyboard in conjunction with a second monitor, for example, had to look down the tube – they were previously unable to purchase the revised accessories individually.

So far, the new keyboards are only available in white. If you buy a new iMac, you get the keyboard in the same color as the iMac.

Three magic keyboards

The prices are relatively high at 159 euros for the Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and 185 euros for the Magic Keyboard with Touch ID and numeric keypad, even for Apple. For comparison: the large keyboard with a numeric keypad costs 135 euros. The third new keyboard is the Magic Keyboard without the fingerprint sensor for 109 euros. The revised Magic Mouse is now available for 85 euros.

But there is a catch: Even if older MacBook Pro devices support Touch ID themselves, Apple writes that the new accessories can only be used in conjunction with an M1 Mac. This applies to all new keyboards with Touch ID. MacOS 11.4 or newer is also required. The version without Touch ID and the mouse can also be used with older Macs and with the iPad to use.
