YouTube Testing Premium Lite Ad-Free Plan In Europe For 7 Euros Monthly

Google is currently testing a cheaper subscription to YouTube, which will allow users to get some of the features of YouTube Premium. For 7 euros per month there will be free advertising in the future, but no possibility for offline downloads or background playback.

This is reported by The Verge, referring to a large-scale test run. The new offer is called “YouTube Premium Lite” and offers, 5 euros cheaper than the premium subscription, the most important option for many users – namely to view the entire range of YouTube advertising-free. The premium subscription has been under the name since 2018 and guarantees the online giant income, even if no advertising is served. To date, advertising has been the main source of income.

The new “Premium Lite” subscription was discovered by a user and made public. YouTube then confirmed the new offer in a statement to The Verge. Premium Lite is currently being tested in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden.

“In the Nordic countries and the Benelux countries (with the exception of Iceland) we are testing a new offer to give users even more choice: Premium Lite costs 6.99 euros/month (or the local equivalent per month) and includes ad-free videos on YouTube,” a YouTube spokesman confirmed in the statement. In comparison, YouTube’s existing premium tariff in Europe currently costs 11.99 euros per month.
