Apple Prepares Important Security Update For iOS 16.6

Apple has released a number of new software updates for iPhone and iPad owners, among others. The new iOS version 16.6 fixes problems and security gaps – but many details have not yet been published.

iPhone and iPad users are now getting a new update for iOS 16. The release candidate was published last week and is now being released to all users.

According to the published release notes, all changes relate to bug fixes or security-related vulnerabilities. However, no details have been given so far. There are no known innovations with this version. Apple has done a lot of code work under the hood though. Macrumors had previously reported that Apple will lay the foundation for the new iMessage contact key verification with iOS 16.6. That might not be the only change in terms of the big iOS 17 feature update.

How to get iOS 16.6

In addition to the update for the iPhone, Apple has also released iPadOS 16.6, watchOS 9.6, tvOS 16.6, and MacOS Ventura 13.5. The distribution takes place as an over-the-air update (OTA), depending on the user settings, either at the preselected time or directly when available.

You can also use iTunes with a PC for the update and connect your iOS device there. If you want to receive the update as quickly as possible and don’t want to wait for the automatic installation, you can search for the software update in the settings and install it directly. To do this, go to Settings → General → Software update.

The iOS update is displayed there, you can start the download and install it directly. This usually gives you the update faster than waiting for an update notification or choosing the automatic function.
