Apple Prepares Smart Home Robot With Personality-Driven Operating System

Apple develops a special operating system called “Charismatic” for upcoming smart home devices. The system is intended to give robots and hubs a human -like personality. Siri should also get a face for this.

Apple develops Charismatic OS

Apple has been planning a large AI in the smart home market for some time. For example, there should be network cameras and a doorbell with Face-ID. However, the plans for several products, such as a smart home display, had recently shifted to the rear due to problems in development. In addition to the hardware, Cupertino also works on a completely new operating system called “Charismatic”, which is specially developed for the upcoming generation of smart home products.

The system could debut in 2027 with a “desk robot” and differs fundamentally from conventional operating systems. Because the focus here is not on apps and programs. Instead, Charismatic relies on direct communication with the user through movements, gestures and personality.

Brand new hardware

The table robot mentioned is said to be equipped with a seven -inch display, which is mounted on a movable arm. The device can move in all directions and should act like a person in the room. For example, it could interrupt talks about evening plans to suggest nearby restaurants or suitable recipes. The robot is expected to cost around $ 1,000 (around 855 euros).

As Bloomberg reports, Apple plans the introduction of a smart display in 2026 before the robot debut. This device acts as a simplified version without the movable arm and is intended to support functions such as music playback, web browsing and notes. Both devices will run with the charismatic operating system, which is designed for several users.

Personality as a specialty

Charismatic OS is very different from iOS or MacOS. The system focuses more on widgets and voice control and less on traditional apps. Instead, the focus is on the interaction between man and machine. A front camera enables facial recognition and automatically adapts to individual preferences as soon as a user approaches the device. The siri version on the device receives a special personality and possibly also a visual representation. Apple is currently testing an animated version of the Finder logo as a Siri appearance. This development shows how the company tries to make its digital assistant more human and accessible.

Strategic change

The move into robotics takes place at a critical time for Apple. After years of slowed-in iPhone growth and the hiring of costly projects such as self-driving cars, the company is under pressure to open up new sources of income. CEO Tim Cook recently emphasized to employees that Apple “has to win in the AI” and described the product pipeline as “amazing”. Charismatic OS could be Apple’s most ambitious operating system since the introduction of iOS.

The development shows how the company moves away from the app-centered philosophy and instead relies on natural interactions. However, the associated products are still in the prototype phase. The smart home division is considered an important growth market in which Apple has so far been behind competitors such as Amazon with Alexa or Google. With Charismatic OS and the planned robot devices, the company could pursue a new approach that stands out from the competition and brings the Apple brand into the living room of the consumer.
