Apple Releases iOS 14 5th Public Beta Version

Apple has released a new pre-release version in the public beta program for iOS 14. This means that all-volunteer testers now receive the same features that were already presented in the developer preview.

These include, for example, improvements to the widgets in the news area, the revised HomeKit control center, and new display options for the photo albums in the Photos app to hide albums. After the fifth beta version for developers, it is now the fourth version that Apple has submitted to the public test program. This means that registered users now receive another update with many improvements Apple Insider has reported. Apple only started the public beta program for iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 in mid-July. In addition to the visible changes mentioned, the new version primarily brings improvements, bug fixes, and a long list of optimizations.

Take part in the beta program

The beta update is now also available as an over-the-air update for registered users of the test program. As with all beta tests, it is important that you should stay away from it with your “productive” system in case there are unforeseen problems. It is better to use a second device. Since iOS 14 is supported from the iPhone 6s onwards, one or the other might still have it in the drawer.

Those who have not yet registered for the beta program can still do so and join the beta phase now. Participation is free and requires a one-time registration for the program at https://beta.apple.com/sp/en/betaprogram from the correspondingly supported device. The Apple ID is required for this. Once you have registered, you will automatically receive new beta versions as with any other update.

Starting Autumn

As in previous years, the starting shot for the finished iOS 14 version should be given in autumn, with a high probability already in September. iOS 14 will then start as a free update for a variety of devices.
