Apple Releases Second Beta of iOS 17.5 Testing Changes For EU

Apple has released the second beta version for iOS 17.5. Among other things, the test is now starting for the new option for developers to offer their apps for download from their own website, authorized by Apple.

Changes for the EU

Not much about the new features and improvements in the new beta has been leaked yet. But it is already clear that the second beta of iOS 17.5 also refers to changes for the EU and thus to adjustments for the Digital Markets Act. The update is currently only available to registered developers.

The new versions for iOS and iPadOS have build number 21F5058e. In addition to this update, new preliminary versions of tvOS 17.5, HomePod Software 17.5, watchOS 10.5, and macOS Sonoma 14.5 are launching.

New in the second beta of iOS 17.5 is Apple’s new web distribution system, which is intended to enable authorized developers to distribute their iOS apps directly via a developer’s own website instead of via a classic store – but this is only possible for “EU iPhones “.

Apple is now providing developers with access to APIs to enable online distribution, system feature integration, backup and restore, and other features. Further details about the update content have not yet been leaked. In any case, other changes only concern bug fixes.

This is how you take part in the beta program

Participation in the beta program is free of charge and requires a one-time registration for the program at beta.apple.com/sp/de/betaprogram on the correspondingly supported device.

This also applies to all beta versions that Apple is testing, i.e. for iPhone, iPad, Watch, Mac, and TV. Users must enter their Apple ID and then receive the update automatically via the update function. New versions will also automatically arrive on the device.

Testing pre-release versions is always at your own risk and should not run on the production system.
