Apple Rolls Out iOS 17.1 and iPadOS 17.1 Second Public Beta

Apple has released the second public beta version for iOS 17.1 and iPadOS 17.1. Improvements for the new standby mode and bug fixes are now starting, among other things. We’ve been keeping an eye out for further changes.

The second beta update for iOS 17

This new beta is particularly interesting because Apple will be launching additional functions with the upcoming update to iOS 17.1 that did not make it into the final iOS 17 version. But there are also other improvements, for example for the new standby mode that has already been started. In the new beta, the setting has been revised, and now there is a choice as to when standby is activated.

In addition, the new ringtones and the battery charging limit are returning to the beta. In the recently released first beta version, both functions were gone.

Apple had already confirmed a few weeks ago that not all of the innovations announced at WWDC will be available right away when iOS 17 launches. Therefore, it remains exciting to see which updates will start. Unfortunately, the release notes are often not very informative.

The new build has the number 21B5056e. New beta versions for iPadOS and watchOS are also available. Many details about the further updated content have not yet been leaked. iOS 17.1 will bring a variety of new features that will improve the user experience even in individual apps. By the way, a hotfix update for the heat problems of the iPhone 15 Pro family should be released before then.

This is how you take part in the beta program

Participation in the beta program is free of charge and requires a one-time registration for the program at beta.apple.com on the correspondingly supported device. This also applies to all beta versions that Apple is testing, i.e. for iPhone, iPad, Watch, Mac, and TV. Users must enter their Apple ID and then receive the update automatically via the update function. New versions will also automatically arrive on the device.

The new beta version is now available to registered users as an over-the-air update. Testing pre-release versions is always at your own risk and should not run on the production system.
