Apple Rolls Out Security Update For iOS 15.7.8

Apple has released a new software update for owners of older iPhones and iPads. iOS version 15.7.8 and iPadOS 15.7.8 fix critical vulnerabilities in the Apple Neural Engine and Webkit. The vulnerabilities are said to be actively exploited.

Critical Vulnerabilities

Fast updating of the devices is therefore more important than ever. The Apple team had already fixed the vulnerabilities for the current iOS 16 and is now also covering the older devices. iPhone and iPad users will now receive an important security update for iOS 15.

According to the release notes, the new iOS 15.7.8 version brings security-related changes to the Neural Engine and the Webkit, among other things.

The vulnerabilities have been classified as critical and can also be exploited remotely. An application can potentially run arbitrary code. Apple has already announced some details about the security-related changes. However, there is not much information.

How to get iOS 15.7.8

The distribution takes place as an over-the-air update (OTA), depending on the user settings, either at the preselected time or directly when available. Alternatively, you can use iTunes on the Windows PC for the update and update your iOS device via the computer.

Update now

The update is strongly recommended to all remaining iOS 15 users due to security-related changes. If you want to receive the update as quickly as possible and don’t want to wait for the automatic installation, you can search for the software update in the settings and install it directly.

To do this, go to Settings / General / Software update. The iOS update is displayed there, you can start the download and install it directly. This usually gives you the update faster than waiting for an update notification or choosing the automatic function.
