Apple rolls out the Emergency SOS to six more countries

Emergency SOS via satellite is a feature that enables users to text emergency services when there is no cellular or Wi-Fi coverage. Apple has provided the Emergency SOS via satellite feature with its latest iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models.

Back in December 2022, Apple introduced the feature in a few selected countries. Initially, the service was introduced in the UK, Ireland, France, and Germany. Some recent pieces of information suggest that the company has expanded the Emergency SOS via satellite service to six more countries. These include Austria, Belgium, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Portugal. The company released a press release on its website and informed about the rollout.

The basic requirement for using Emergency SOS via satellite feature is an iPhone 14 model and iOS 16.4, released on Monday. The company featured Apple’s Emergency SOS via satellite feature during WWDC 2022. It is actually a combination of three components. It includes an iOS app, iPhone 14 smartphone hardware, and Globalstar satellites network in addition to staff and ground stations.

Apple’s Emergency SOS via satellite is used in emergency cases when there is no cellular or Wi-Fi service. It appears automatically when a user tries to call emergency services. In addition to this, it asks users some initial questions.

How to use emergency SOS via satellite on your iPhone 14

In case of an emergency, dial 911. In case, if your phone can’t connect, you will be provided with an option to send a text to emergency services via satellite. Tap on the Emergency Text via the Satellite button.

In other cases, you can directly send a text message to Emergency Services via going to Messages and texting 911 or SOS.
