Apple Silicon of the Mac Pro: Up to 40-core CPU and 128-core GPU

Apple Silicon is helping Macs to achieve new heights in performance, and it is eagerly awaited what the company tickles out of its own chips in its Mac Pro desktop top product. The first very promising specifications are now emerging.

The completion of the switch to the M-Chips comes with a bang

It was already clear so far that the switch to the M-Class chip family would end with a grand finale: after the Mac Mini, MacBook, and iMac, the high-performance Mac Pro for Apple can finally mark the transition into a new era. Now the Bloomberg reporter wants Mark Gurman (via 9to5Mac) can provide initial information on the planned construction of the most powerful Apple Silicon to date.

In the past, Apple liked to take years of time to introduce new models with the Mac Pro, but the development of new drives based on the M1 Pro and M1 Max is currently in full swing. For the Mac Pro, Gurman predicts a configuration with up to 40 CPU cores and 128 graphics cores. For comparison: the current top is the 28 ‑ core Intel Xeon W. Furthermore, there is no more detailed information on the structure, so two important questions remain unanswered for the time being.

The current maximum for RAM for the MacBook Pro with the M1 Max chip is 64 GB. Mac Pro users are used to significantly higher values, at the top 1.5 TB DDR4 ECC memory is currently possible with the Intel model. So here the first M model will have to show how far Apple can exhaust the storage connection. In addition, it will be exciting to see which division Apple chooses in terms of performance and efficiency cores. One thing seems certain, however: Because of the significantly lower cooling requirement, Apple can make the new Mac Pro loud compared to its predecessor Wccftech probably shrink significantly.

Appointment and some companions

Last but not least, Gurman provides a specific date that Mac users with pro ambitions can mark in the calendar. Accordingly, Apple could present the new Mac Pro with M-Chip as early as June at the in-house exhibition WWDC 2022. The desktop flagship could share the stage with two other newcomers: a new Mac Mini and an iMac Pro with a larger screen.
