Apple Starts Rolling Out iOS 16.0.3 Update

With iOS 16.0.3, Apple is now making a new update available for iPhones to download. Various software problems in the new iPhone 14 Pro models are fixed, crashes in the mail app are prevented and a security gap with regard to email reception is closed.

As the release of iOS 16.1 approaches, Apple is addressing various bug fixes and is currently playing them out in the iOS 16.0.3 update as an intermediate step. As can be seen from the official patch notes (see below), the iPhone 14 Pro Max in particular will benefit from the update. Notifications from apps and calls should display reliably again after installation and the microphone volume should return to a normal level when connected to CarPlay.

Furthermore, an error has been fixed that could cause the camera app to start and switch between different camera modes to be too slow on new Pro models. Likewise, incorrectly formatted emails should no longer cause the Mail app to crash. Appropriately, Apple was able to close a security gap that enabled a “Denial-of-Service” attack via email. The reason is said to have been an incorrect input validation.

The approximately 965 MB download of Apple iOS 16.0.3 can be carried out via the settings and the menu items “General -> Software update”.

Official Apple iOS 16.0.3 update changelog

The new patch fixes the following bugs:

  • Notifications from apps and incoming calls may be delayed or not received at all on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
  • When making phone calls via CarPlay on the iPhone 14 models, the microphone volume can be low.
  • The camera may start up or switch slowly between modes on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
  • Mail crashes on startup after receiving an improperly formatted email.
