Apple Store To Disappear Permanently From The Mall in Chicago Area

Apple has announced the permanent closure of its retail store at the Northbrook Court shopping mall in the Chicago area. While the exact closure date has not yet been confirmed, the company released a statement explaining the decision.

The Northbrook location initially opened in 2005 and later expanded to a larger space within the mall in 2017. Despite the closure, Apple has assured that all affected employees will retain their roles within the company.

“At Apple, we’re always focused on providing an exceptional experience for all of our customers,” the company said in a statement. “With the evolving redevelopment plans at Northbrook Court Mall and the departure of several retailers, we have made the difficult decision to close our store there. We’ve loved serving the Northbrook community for nearly 20 years, and our valued team members will continue their roles at Apple. We look forward to welcoming customers at one of our eight Chicagoland locations, as well as on Apple.com and the Apple Store app.”

The decision comes as Northbrook Court continues to experience challenges, having lost multiple major retailers over recent years. Just last month, Lululemon permanently closed its store, further contributing to the mall’s decline. Crain’s Chicago Business was the first to report the news.

Apple has been making similar adjustments to its retail strategy globally. Early last year, it permanently closed its Infinite Loop and Royal Hawaiian stores. Despite these closures, Apple continues to expand, with new stores opening at Miami Worldcenter, The Exchange TRX in Malaysia, and more. The company also recently announced plans for a new retail location in Downtown Detroit.

For now, customers in the Chicago area can visit one of Apple’s eight other retail locations or shop online via Apple.com and the Apple Store app.
