Apple to announce iOS 15.4 update next week, beta arrives
Apple has released another preview version for iOS 15.4. This new beta has already been announced as a ready-release candidate. The latest update now also has its release date: it should be next week. Apple announced this in the margins of the Apple event. A date for the release of iOS 15.4 has not yet been given, instead, it was only said that the update would start “next week”. It’s reasonable to assume that Apple will release the update on Tuesday, as iOS updates have often started on Tuesdays in the past. However, release candidates for iOS 15.4, iPad 15.4, and macOS Monterey 12.3 are now available. Updates have only appeared in the developer channel so far.
As expected, this new preview version contains only fixes and no known issues. The update brings bug fixes from the previous previews. So far, however, no release notes are available, so one can only speculate about individual changes. iOS 15.4 also launches improvements to the anti-stalking feature for AirTags, as well as Universal Control and Face ID recognition with masks. There are new features in the US, where Apple is launching Tap-to-Pay, a feature that allows you to accept NFC payments with an iPhone instead of a conventional terminal.
How to join the beta program
First of all, Apple has released the beta update for iOS 15.4 only to registered developers. An update for end-users will certainly follow soon, but nothing is yet to be seen. If you haven’t signed up for the public beta program yet, you can still do so and join right away when the new public beta becomes available. Participation is free and requires a one-time registration for the program beta.apple.com/sp/en/betaprogram from the respective supported device. This requires the Apple ID. Once you’ve signed up, you’ll automatically receive new beta versions just like any other update. However, keep in mind that, as with any beta version, unforeseen issues can occur. It is, therefore, better not to use your productive iPhone, but a second device for the tests.
