Apple To Work On Entire Redesign Of MacBook for 2026

Apple is preparing the first major redesign of the MacBook Pro for five years for 2026. In addition to an OLED display, the professional notebook should receive a slimmer housing and the new M6 processor. Previously there is a smaller update with M5 chips.

Three important innovations for the MacBook Pro

Apple is planning the first comprehensive revision of the MacBook Pro since the introduction of the in-house processors in 2021. According to the Bloomberg reporter, Mark Gurman If the professional notebook should receive three significant improvements: an OLED display, a thinner housing and the new M6 processor. A central innovation is the change from mini-LED to OLED screens. Apple should want to use the same tandem oled technology that is also used in the iPad Pro. This second generation of the OLED displays is characterized by a higher brightness and longer durability and also promises better contrasts and natural colors.

The market research company Omdia reports (via 9to5mac) continue from a new display design with rounded corners. The current notch could be replaced by a smaller camera neckline. It is currently not known whether this will work similarly to the Dynamic Island of the iPhone.

Leaner design, new processor generation

The switch to OLED displays enables a thinner housing because these panels need less installation space than the currently installed mini-LED displays. The lower energy consumption of OLED technology could also extend the battery life in conjunction with the new processor. The M6 ​​processor should be used as the third important innovation.

The chip is expected to be manufactured in the 2-nanometer process at TSMC. This new manufacturing technology is intended to enable significant improvements in performance and energy efficiency. Industry observers also only expect bigger jumps in performance with the M6. Before the big redesign, Apple is planning an update of the current MacBook Pro models for autumn 2025.

As is well known, these notebooks are to receive M5 processors, which may already be used on stacked chips and a chiplet design. The production is to be switched from N3E to the N3P process at TSMC.
