Apple has announced changes to App Store pricing and taxes for developers across various regions, with some adjustments already in effect as of February 6, 2025. These updates are part of the company’s routine adjustments due to tax regulations or shifts in foreign exchange rates, as outlined on the Apple Developer website.
Developers in multiple countries across Europe, Asia, and South America will see their proceeds impacted by these changes. Here’s a breakdown of the specific tax updates:
Apple has also updated Exhibit B of its Paid Applications Agreement to reflect that the company will collect and remit applicable taxes in Azerbaijan and Peru. Further pricing changes will take effect on February 24, 2025.
According to Apple, “Pricing for apps and In-App Purchases will be updated for the Azerbaijan and Peru storefronts if you haven’t selected one of these as the base for your app or In-App Purchase. If you’ve selected the Azerbaijan or Peru storefront as the base for your app or In-App Purchase, prices won’t change.”
Upcoming Tax Changes in Japan
In addition to the above adjustments, Apple has detailed upcoming tax changes in Japan, effective April 1, 2025. This follows regulatory changes classifying Apple as a Specified Platform Operator, which requires the company to collect a 10% Japanese Consumption Tax on paid apps and in-app purchases sold by non-Japanese developers in the Japan App Store.
Developer proceeds will be adjusted accordingly. However, in-app purchases like coins sold before April 1, 2025, will not be subject to the new tax. Developers can monitor these changes in the Pricing and Availability section of My Apps on App Store Connect. For further details, visit the relevant Apple Developer webpage.
These updates are part of Apple’s ongoing efforts to comply with global tax regulations and maintain transparency for developers worldwide.
