Apple is taking all the necessary steps to avoid the ban on the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2. Recently, we learned that the company is considering the option to remove the disputed feature from its smartwatches. Well, as per expectations, the company has updated its US website, which indicates that the Blood Oxygen feature is no longer available on the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2.
Apple has eliminated any reference to the feature from its product comparison tool and posted a banner to the relevant store URLs for both devices. Developer Dylan McDonald noticed the recent change. In an effort to circumvent the possible ban on its smartwatches, the company has removed the Blood Oxygen feature from the US market.
Following a decision that Apple had infringed on Masimo’s pulse oximetry patents with the feature, which debuted on the Series 6 model in 2020, the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) imposed the ban. The models of the Apple Watch will still accompany the Blood Oxygen app. However, the app will show a new notification to users indicating that the app is no longer available whenever a user opens the app. Through this alert, users will be directed to the Health app on the iPhone.
One thing to notice here is that the Blood Oxygen app is still operational on the models of Series 9 and Ultra 2 that were previously sold. Besides this, the models sold outside the US market still showcase the feature since the sales ban is not imposed on an international scale. Apple is still appealing the ITC’s ruling because it completely disagrees with it.
