As part of its current product refresh, the computer company Apple has now also introduced a new iMac. An update with the M2 chip at the time was dispensed with and is now making the jump to the next SoC generation.
The difference here is correspondingly large compared to the first ARM-based iMac, which came onto the market in April 2021. At that time, Apple didn’t even install the best chips of the M1 generation in the device, so the performance boost should go well beyond what was heard in the pure chip announcement.
Apple offers the new iMac with an M3 with eight CPU cores, which are supported by eight or ten GPU cores, depending on the variant. Regardless of the chip used, buyers can choose from memory configurations with 8, 16, and 24 gigabytes of RAM, with the CPU and GPU sharing the memory. The integrated SSD can be from 256 gigabytes to 2 terabytes.
The technology is built into the housing of a 24-inch display, which provides a resolution of 4480 x 2520 pixels and a brightness of 500 nits. A webcam with 1080p resolution is also integrated into this, the recordings of which are supposed to be improved using AI technologies.
Users who need more screen space can also connect an external display to the USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 3 support, which can work at a resolution of up to 6K. The USB 4 standard is provided on the USB side. If you need a classic Ethernet connection, you can get a power supply in which the port is integrated.
Apple advertises that it uses significantly more recycled materials in the new iMac. The base is therefore made entirely of recycled aluminum. Inside, recycled rare earth magnets, reused solder, and a completely recycled gold coating on the circuit boards are used.
The new iMac is available in the smallest configuration for 1,599 euros. The most expensive variants with maximum memory configurations range up to well over 3000 euros. Anyone who orders the device now should have it delivered from November 7th.
