Apple Watch Series 8 and SE2 Details Unearthed

After a slight facelift of the watch portfolio around the Series 7, Apple is to plan a major upgrade for the next year. Not only could a new Apple Watch SE 2 be planned, but also a much more robust Series 8 Sport version with a new case.

The currently available Apple Watch Series 7 was predicted to have a completely new design with flat edges and an iPhone 13 or iPad Air look, which Apple has put on hold for at least this year. Instead, the 2021 model of the smartwatch differs from its predecessors only in that it has a slightly larger display. Experts, therefore, comment relatively early on the successors to the Series 7 and the Watch lineup in general, which is expected in autumn 2022.

New Outdoor Case?

Bloomberg’s often well-informed Apple reporter Mark Gurman via MacRumors assumes that the Apple Watch Series 8 will not only be reissued in the previously available versions with cases made of aluminum, stainless steel, and titanium. The company should also work on a more robust variant that is likely to be better suited for sports and outdoor activities. So far, attempts have been made to address this target group with the Apple Watch Nike edition, which may be drastically changed in the coming year.

Apple Watch SE 2 will get an upgrade in 2022

There is also talk of a new edition of the Apple Watch SE, which is updated in irregular cycles similar to the iPhone SE. So far, this has been based on the older Apple Watch Series 6 and dispenses with essential functions such as the always-on display and sensors for blood oxygen and EKG. Gurman expects an upgrade to take place in the fall of 2022 but does not comment on the possible scope of this. The Series 8 feature set should determine the extent to which the Apple Watch SE 2 will benefit from the “Premium” features of the current Series 7. Since these are particularly early forecasts, they should be viewed with a certain amount of skepticism.
