Apple Watches could be banned in the US

In the smartwatch market, the Apple Watch is one of the most popular smartwatches. However, the situation might change with time. Reportedly, the Apple Watch might suffer from a ban in the United States. According to the information, it might be due to a patent infringement lawsuit.

We are all aware of the fact that smartwatches come with several health features, including heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking, and other such features. Detection of blood oxygen levels or light-based pulse oximetry technology is another feature that can be found in the Apple Watch 6 debuted in 2020. Reportedly, the company is facing a lawsuit over this technology.

The patent for this technology is held by Masimo, a medical technology company. The company has filed a lawsuit against Apple with the International Trade Commission (ITC). Since the ITC declared in this case, it’s possible that Apple won’t be allowed to import Apple Watches into the nation.

As you may expect, this has not gone down well with the corporation. An Apple representative offered their thoughts on the matter. “Masimo has erroneously tried to utilize the ITC to prevent millions of American consumers from accessing a potentially life-saving product while paving the way for their own watch that imitates Apple’s design. Although the decision made today won’t immediately affect Apple Watch sales, we still think it should be overturned and will keep up our appeal.

It depends on the president

Although the ITC has issued a decision in Masimo’s favor, it won’t be implemented immediately. Users can still place their order for the Apple Watch 9. Right now, the decision is dependent on Biden’s administration since the president can veto the ruling, although there is less chance of this. He has sixty days to decide. We therefore know that Apple is making every effort to prevent the Apple Watch ban in the interim. Furthermore, it’s not impossible that Apple and Masimo will speak and reach a resolution before the allotted 60 days have passed. We’ll find out in time.
