Apple WWDC 2021 will be an online-only event this year amid COVID-19

Apple has announced its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) will start on June 7t and last till June 11th this year. The event will be an online-only event.

The company shared a bit about the event where it’s expected that the company may introduce the memoji character’s glasses or announce its long-rumoured VR headset or AR glasses.

Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of worldwide developer relations, in a press release said:

We are working to make WWDC21 our biggest and best yet, and are excited to offer Apple developers new tools to support them as they create apps that change the way we live, work, and play,

WWDC is an annual event where Apple shares the changes coming to iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, and watchOS. Last year, the company dedicated a significant portion of its keynote to introducing its Mac lineup’s transition to its own Apple Silicon processors.

The company usually doesn’t discuss much about its new hardware at the developer conference. At the WWDC 2019, Apple announced the new Mac Pro, while at WWDC 2017 it announced HomePod smart speaker, updated iMac desktops, and a new 10.5″ iPad Pro.

It’s not a surprise that Apple is conducting its WWDC online only this year, given the impact of COVID-19. Facebook’s F8 developer conference is also to be conducted virtually this year, and so will the San Diego Comic-Con and the 2021 Anime Expo.
