At MWC, TCL unveiled a staggering seven-phone TCL 50  series

With the launch of the 50 Series series, TCL, a Chinese electronics maker, has expanded the range of its smartphone offerings. Following its initial unveiling at CES 2024, TCL provided additional information about these devices—including their cost and availability—at MWC Barcelona.

Features of the TCL 50 series

One of the notable features of the TCL 50 series is the use of TCL’s NXTPAPER display technology. Reportedly, this technology has been used in two models of the series: the TCL 50 XL NXTPAPER 5G and the TCL 50 XE NXTPAPER 5G. TCL asserts that this technology enables regular smartphone screens to enjoy the advantages of e-ink displays, which are renowned for their decreased glare and paper-like clarity. The goal of this is to reduce user eye strain.

The TCL 50 XL 5G and 50 XL NXTPAPER 5G are basically same smartphone except the difference of the NXTPAPER technology. They feature 6.8-inch displays with 120Hz refresh rates for smooth visuals. Both devices are powered by the MediaTek 23E+ chipset. They feature a triple camera setup comprising of a 50MP main camera.

The TCL 50 XE 5G and TCL 50 XE NXTPAPER 5G, on the other hand, are powered by the MediaTek 6835 23E+ chipset. They feature a 6.6-inch 90Hz display. A hole-punch cutout on the front can be found here. They comprise of a 50MP main camera and a 5MP ultrawide lens. The affordable option, the TCL 50 5G compromises the camera quality.

The TCL 50 SE is targeted for entertainment enthusiasts. It features a large screen with 12GB of RAM and impressive dual speakers. The TCL 50 LE, with a slightly smaller display is a budget friendly option. Compared to other models of the series, it packs a small battery.

Price of the TCL 50 series

TCL intends to market the TCL 50 LE 5G as a super-budget option at a price point of about $100. The non-NXTPAPER TCL 50 XL 5G will continue to retail for less than $169, while the TCL 50 XL NXTPAPER 5G will cost less than $229.

Comparably, the NXTPAPER model will cost less than $199, while the regular TCL 50 XE 5G will be available for less than $149. T-Mobile plans to bring the basic TCL 50 XL 5G to Metro in Q2 2024. In Q3, TCL will release the NXTPAPER model on its website. Furthermore, in Q3 2024, both TCL 50 XE models are also expected to be available for sale.
