Bard, Google’s AI Assistant, Could Be renamed to “Gemini”

The tech giant Google might rename its AI assistant Bard to Gemini. The new information is based on a recent code on the public website of Bard that was discovered by tech researcher Bedros Pamboukian. With the help of these flags, all instances of Bard will be replaced with Gemini all over the site. The corporation might intend to call all of its AI initiatives “Gemini,” its most recent AI model.

Notably, the Bard website’s coding shows that every text string that contains the word “Bard” has an equivalent version that uses the word “Gemini.” The logo label in the header appears to be the only Bard reference that Google hasn’t changed. The paid version of Bard is termed Bard Advanced. It has not been released yet. The code indicates that it has also been changed to “Gemini Advanced.” Despite its simplicity, the new moniker might cause confusion given the underlying Gemini model’s current levels of sophistication (“Nano,” “Pro,” and “Ultra”).

The above-mentioned information is in line with the recent news shared by 9To5Google that the company might rename its AI-powered Assistant to “Gemini.” In the past, the potential makeover was referred to as “Assistant with Bard.” Google may simplify their generative AI branding under the all-encompassing “Gemini” banner by renaming both Bard and Assistant. The term “Gemini” would therefore refer to both the underlying technology and consumer-ready devices.

However, other generative AI products like “Duet AI” in Workspace might keep their existing identities even if Bard gets rebranded. It appears like the company is trying to distinguish Workspace tools and consumer offerings by presenting a more unified appeal. In this way, Gemini could give a unique identity to Google’s AI assistant, in contrast to Siri and Alexa. Furthermore, the company has recently added Generative AI features to Google Maps. Reportedly, these features will help users locate personalized places.
