Call of Duty publisher donates $1m to LA fire relief

Feel-good news is hard to find these days, especially as California continues to battle devastating wildfires. However, Activision, the Microsoft-owned publisher behind the popular Call of Duty franchise, is stepping up in a big way. Over the weekend, Activision announced a $1 million donation to support Californians affected by the ongoing Los Angeles fires.

In addition to this generous contribution, Call of Duty developers have released a new in-game Operator bundle to support fire relief efforts further. Every dollar from the sales of the LA Fire Relief Ultra Bundle in the Call of Duty store will be donated to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation and Direct Relief.

A Bundle for a Cause

The LA Fire Relief Ultra Bundle is now available in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty: Warzone. Players can purchase the bundle for 2400 COD Points, equivalent to around $20 on Amazon.

This exclusive bundle includes a variety of unique items, such as:

  • Plasmic Operator Skin for Payne: A dark, hazmat-style suit with an animated pastel RGB face mask and swirling patterns resembling an oil slick.
  • Legendary Weapon Blueprint: Null: For the AK-74 assault rifle, featuring animated wave patterns, “Trippy” tracers, and a whirlpool death effect.
  • Legendary Weapon Blueprint: Void: For the Swat 5.56 marksman rifle, with matching tracers and death effects.
  • Additional Items: A Spiral weapon charm, Cosmic Section weapon sticker, Layers spray for in-game use, and a Leaking player emblem.

These items can be equipped in both Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone. However, they are not compatible with Modern Warfare 2 or Modern Warfare 3.

Fires Continue to Devastate Los Angeles

The LA wildfires began on January 7, with the Pacific Palisades fire erupting as a brush fire, followed by the Eaton Fire in a canyon north of downtown Los Angeles. Since then, a total of 31 wildfires have burned across Los Angeles County, fueled by severe drought conditions and hurricane-strength winds.

Collectively, the fires have resulted in the tragic loss of at least 27 lives, the destruction of over 37,000 acres of land, and damage to more than 16,000 buildings. Over 100,000 residents have been forced to evacuate, and even as the fires subside, the lingering ash and smoke pose ongoing health risks.

Activision Stands with Los Angeles

While Activision is now owned by Microsoft and headquartered in Seattle, its roots remain in California. The publisher’s offices and those of Black Ops 6 studio Treyarch are still based in Santa Monica, part of LA County.

In a LinkedIn post, Activision emphasized its commitment to supporting its employees and the broader Southern California community. The company stated:

“We know the journey to resuming some normalcy in Los Angeles is going to be a long one. Thank you to our first responders for their heroic actions, and to our employees for stepping up for each other in big ways. We will continue to support our impacted people privately and as needed.”

How You Can Help

By purchasing the LA Fire Relief Ultra Bundle, Call of Duty players can directly contribute to fire relief efforts. It’s an opportunity to make an impact while enjoying some exciting in-game content.
