Canalys shares its report about the smartphone market share of various brands for 2022
2022 was a year of chaos. It brought challenges for various smartphone brands. Several factors contributed to the overall downfall of the smartphone market. Some of these factors were geopolitical tensions, supply chain issues, and rising prices of smartphone components. The overall impact was quite obvious during Q4 2022 when the market dropped by 17%. Besides these challenging conditions, the two brands somehow managed to survive this crisis and increase their market share. Reportedly, they were Samsung and Apple.
Canalys is a market research firm. According to a recent report from Canalys, in 2022 the biggest smartphone brand was the South Korean tech giant i.e., Samsung. In contrast to 2021, an improvement of 2% was observed in its global market share which made it 22% for 2022. On the other hand, Apple’s market share improved from 17% in 2021 to almost 19% in the year 2022. However, things changed in Q4 2022, when Apple was able to beat Samsung in Q4 2022. It was about when Apple introduced the iPhone 14 series. Whereas, Samsung didn’t reveal any new products in Q4 2022.
When it comes to Chinese brands, Xiaomi observed a 1% point compared to the year 2021. However, it still managed 13% of the market share. It resided in the third rank as per the research report by Canalys. The main reason behind this was the current issue between the company and the Indian government regarding tax evasion. OPPO and Vivo secured fourth and fifth positions. They gained 9% of the market share in 2022. However, in 201 the market share owned by Oppo was around 11%, and the one owned by Vivo was 10%.
According to the market research firm, the market for the following year is going to be flat given the economic instability. As per the firm, companies could redesign their strategies and adopt measures that help them earn profits and cut down costs.
