CES 2023: Cellico Launches AR Glasses Powered By AI for Visually Impaired

At CES 2023 this year, Samsung will not only be presenting new products itself but also projects that it has sponsored. This includes Cellico with data glasses that can compensate for age-related macular degeneration.

This is reported by the online magazine ETNews. Cellico is one of the companies that won one of the CES 2023 Innovation Awards – and with their invention, they are revolutionizing the tools for people suffering from age-related diseases.

The start-up will present the “Arges glasses” with an advanced prototype at CES. The glasses take over the display of the image section that is missing in age-related macular degeneration and thus provide the visually impaired with the missing images.

Help with declining eyesight

Age-related macular degeneration is one of the most common causes of blindness. It causes the center of vision in older people to become blurred or even disappear. The Arges glasses now display the missing parts at a different point in the field of vision so that the user receives the information from the missing image section.

Developed by a Samsung-funded C-Lab innovation center in South Korea, the glasses work with a 4K camera and an app.

A small 4K camera is built into the bridge of the glasses, capturing everything that’s nearby. Live video from the camera is displayed on a circular screen on one side of the user’s field of view, where they can actually see it. The display is shifted to the peripheral viewing window. With the help of an app on a connected smartphone, the user can first determine the exact area of ​​​​his field of vision that is affected by visual impairment. Then it is determined where the camera image is to be displayed. This individual adaptation should be easy to carry out yourself.

The display itself can then also be controlled by voice command, for example, to enlarge or reduce the sections. The glasses are revolutionary above all because of their suitability for everyday use. It should only weigh 94 grams and get by with a smartphone companion app. There is currently no information on availability or price.
