Compatibility testing is being done by Threads with other ActivityPub providers, such as Mastodon

Some of the famous examples of ActivityPub services include Mastodon and Pixelfed. These services are based on the ActivityPub protocol and are categorized as social media platforms based on Fediverse. At its launch, Instagram announced that soon Threads will receive compatibility with ActivityPub services, like Mastodon. Right now, Instagram is testing it out.

According to the announcement made by Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s CEO, ActivityPub compatibility testing for Threads has begun. The company is now evaluating the capability of viewing Threads postings on other social networking platforms that are built on ActivityPub. According to him, having connectivity with other services will increase the reach of Threads posts and provide users with more options for how and where they interact. Verifying a user’s Threads account through Mastodon was made feasible by Threads in August.

Well, it has been on the agenda of the Threads team since the very first day to introduce ActivityPub compatibility to the platform. According to Adam Mosseri, Instagram’s head, for content makers of the younger generation, Fediverse compatibility will be essential. Additionally, Mark Zuckerberg asserts that he thinks content will flow more naturally between platforms, which is excellent for all social media services.

Despite these promises and guarantees, there is less chance for Threads to become a complete Fediverse platform, according to critics. Once people can post on Threads using Mastodon or other ActivityPub-based social media services, then we can begin to believe Meta’s claims.
