Developer Update: Bug Fix for Windows 10 2004 ADK Tools

Microsoft has released a major bug fix update for developers using Windows 10 version 2004 ADK. Among other things, this fixes an issue that could lead to the inability to create a new virtual application package. Details about the new update can be found in the Knowledge Base below KB5012894 summarized. This is an update to the Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V) Sequencer Tool and to the Microsoft User Experience Virtualization (UE-V) Template Generator. Both are part of the Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (ADK).

The update addresses two developer tools

Microsoft has confirmed an issue with the Windows Assessment and Deployment Kit (Windows ADK) for Windows 10, version 2004. This issue occurs when Windows does not trust the signature of a file when Secure Boot is enabled. This file is used by both the App-V Sequencer Tool and the UE-V Template Generator, so the update addresses both tools.

According to the update note, because of the error, Windows cannot verify the digital signature for files. A recent hardware or software change may have installed a file that is incorrectly signed, corrupted or malicious software from an unknown source. Microsoft does not provide details on this. The update can be used on Windows 10, version 2004, and later versions of Windows 10 that have Windows ADK for Windows 10, version 2004 installed.

Issues fixed in this update

  • Microsoft Application Virtualization (App-V) Sequencer Tool:
  • Addresses issue where the following error message is displayed when a user tries to create a new virtual application package:
  • “The AppVMon service cannot run on the computer ‘.” cannot be started.”
  • Template Generator for Microsoft User Experience Virtualization (UE-V):
  • Addresses issue where the following error message appears when a user tries to create a new settings location template:
  • “There was an error determining the locations for application settings.”
