Disney+ is about to launch strict password sharing rules

Yesterday, Disney announced its figures and these were very encouraging for the company. What is less pleasing for customers, however, is that the streaming service will soon become more expensive. And measures against password sharing are also coming soon.

Grace period ends soon

The Walt Disney Group announced months ago that it would follow the example of Netflix and others and take tougher action against users and accounts that share their login details with others. So far, these promises have remained the same, but this grace period will not last for much longer. During a conference call with investors, Disney CEO Bob Iger (via The Verge) that the anti-sharing measures will begin “in earnest” in September. This step has been announced for months, but the exact timetable has been unclear until now. According to Iger, it already started in “some countries” in June, but it is still not known exactly which ones.

There are still question marks: Iger said that it will start next month, but the company has not yet given any details on how. It is still not known how much you pay if you let someone else “watch” your account. At Netflix, it costs an additional €4.99, which is probably the same price for Disney+.

Good experiences

According to Iger, the experience in countries where this is already active has been positive: “We have had no response to the notifications (about paid sharing) that we have sent out and to the work that we have already done,” said Iger. It is also not yet known how Disney will implement the whole thing technically. Here, too, there have recently been only vague hints that they will “analyze account usage” to find out that an account is only used in a single household.
