Disney To Launch Star Wars games Every Six Months in the future

Alongside Marvel, Star Wars is Disney’s most important pop culture franchise at the moment, and arguably overall as well. In the games area, on the other hand, the science fiction universe plays a rather subordinate role, but apparently, the media group is planning to (massively) expand it.

The reason Star Wars doesn’t play that big in the gaming space is that many games just didn’t have the quality you’d expect from such an important entertainment product. The tide turned a bit with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars: Squadrons, which were well received by the trade press and the public.

The site InsideGaming reports that Disney would like to continue this streak and even more, would like to expand it. Citing unspecified insider sources, it is said that the Mickey Mouse company intends to release two Star Wars games per year in the future, namely a major AAA title and a smaller game.

The role model for the latter is probably the space shooter Squadrons. The game developed by Motive Studios was rather short, but still found many friends who felt reminded of classics like X-Wing and TIE Fighter.

Eight Star Wars games in the works

There are also currently indications that Disney is actually preparing such a release clock. Because there are currently about eight games in development and these are only those that have already been confirmed.

This is also made possible by the fact that Disney awards are allowed to award the Star Wars license much more freely. Because in the past, the gaming rights were exclusively in the hands of Electronic Arts and that wasn’t always an advantage for the brand – just think of the loot box controversy of Star Wars Battlefront 2.

The next two titles are already known: next year comes Jedi: Survivor, the sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order, and Star Wars: Hunters, a free-to-play multiplayer game for mobile devices and Nintendo Switch.
