The Star Wars machine is currently standing still in cinemas but is running at full throttle on Disney+. The highly anticipated miniseries Obi Wan has just arrived, but fans of the sci-fi universe invented by George Lucas can also look forward to the end of August when Star Wars Andor kicks off. Andor is eagerly awaited as this is a prequel to a prequel. However, not just any prequel, but the movie Rogue One, which is so popular with fans. The 2016 film, fully titled Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, tells the prequel to the first Star Wars movie (Episode 4), i.e. the destruction of the Death Star.
The prequel is about the rebels who got hold of the planet killer’s plans. Rogue One is especially popular because the film is considered sober and above all dark. No wonder (spoiler alert): almost all of the film’s protagonists eventually die, including the rebel Cassian Andor played by Diego Luna. The pilot, intelligence officer, and leader of the unit called Rogue One (designed to steal the Death Star plans) nevertheless returns, and in the form of a backstory.
At the event called Star Wars Celebration 2022, Disney has now shown the first full trailer for Andor, and you’re sure to want more: the series, described on the Star Wars page as a “thrilling, nerve-wracking spy thriller”, kicks off on December 31. August on Disney+, offering a total of twelve episodes. That’s a lot longer than the previous Star Wars series, but fans will be fine.
Star Wars Andor is set five years before Rogue One and the creators describe the series and storyline as follows: “The Andor series will explore a new perspective of the Star Wars galaxy, focusing on Cassian Andor’s journey as he discovers what he can achieve. The series tells the story of the burgeoning rebellion against the Empire and how humans and planets have become involved.
