DuckDuck Go Hits 100 Million Queries Per Day

The DuckDuckGo search engine is known for giving users more privacy than Microsoft and Google do. Therefore, the service was able to win many new users in 2020. The tool can now record more than 100 million requests per day.

The search engine has thus reached a new milestone in its twelve-year history. The number of users has risen continuously over the past two years. Since August last year, the website has processed more than two billion searches in most months. While DuckDuckGo was only available as a web version for a long time, the search engine is now also available as a smartphone app for Android and iOS.

As shown in a tweet via ZDNet from user DHH, DuckDuckGo was able to process more than 100 million search queries per day for the first time last Monday. It can be assumed that the number of users will continue to rise in the near future.

WhatsApp responsible for new trend

The discussion about the new terms of use of WhatsApp is likely to be responsible for the rapid increase. Facebook plans to tap more metadata from users of the instant messenger and make it available to all of the Group’s subsidiaries. The introduction of the new guidelines has now been postponed by three months. Facebook’s actions have sparked a controversial data protection debate.

For this reason, there are more and more users who want to protect their privacy and are switching to services that collect fewer data. While Signal and Telegram are particularly popular with messengers, DuckDuckGo is known as a fairly anonymous search engine.
