Today, Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui in Islamabad High Court revealed that the court would take decision on banning Facebook and other social websites in the next coming hearing which is expected on next Monday 27th of March.
While hearing the case, court has ordered PTA to provide any latest findings that they have discovered during this issue and submit it in the court before next hearing.
In today’s hearing, DG FIA said that they have already completed their investigation and submitted the report two days earlier.
One suspect is already detained for sharing and spreading blasphemous content on social media, DG FIA said in the court. FIA official further added that “personal belongings of suspect especially mobile phone and a laptop has been confiscated for further investigations with the help of forensic officials.”
According to DG FIA, agency was keeping an eye constantly on least three suspects; few others were also placed on the Exit Control List (ECL).
Justice Siddiqui, remarks were in favor of putting a ban on Facebook. He also said that we should allow more time for Facebook management in order to make decision and investigate the issue but until then he urged, “it was important to ban Facebook in Pakistan.”
Earlier, Government of Pakistan started rolling out TV advertisements on media which contains the strong message “blasphemous” content on social media websites should be removed and not posted and those posting such material will be “strictly punished.” This is a serious offense in constitutional Law of Pakistan.
The Interior minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has also insisted that the authorities will do everything possible to take action against blasphemers.
