Facebook, Instagram Bans ‘Dangerous Individuals’

Many dangerous individuals or those accused of hate speech are being banned by Facebook.

A lot of known figures like the host of right-wing conspiracy website InfoWars Alex Jones, its UK editor Paul Joseph Watson and ex-Breitbart News editor Milo Yiannopoulos have been accused of hate speech by the social network.

The Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan who expressed anti-Semitic views will also be banned. Anti-Islamic UK groups like Britain First have been already banned by Facebook. Also lately they are also being banned on Instagram.

The company in a statement said, “We’ve always banned individuals or organizations that promote or engage in violence and hate, regardless of ideology.”

Adding, “The process for evaluating potential violators is extensive and it is what led us to our decision to remove these accounts today.”

A white supremacist Paul Nehlen and an anti-Islamic activist Laura Loomer with a huge social media presence have also been banned.

But, Facebook is being criticized for warning of the bans beforehand that gives the affecters a chance to redirect their fans and followers to other apps.

For instance Mr Yiannopoulos wrote to his followers, “I’m about to be banned. Please sign up for my mailing list before this account disappears.”
