Facebook introduces facial recognition as another tool for unlocking accounts

Facebook has a collection of its own Apple’s face ID. The company is trying to test ways for regaining access to your locked Facebook accounts by using your face as your identity. This feature could be extremely helpful when two-factor verification codes cannot be received or if accessing your mailing accounts is not possible or while on a plane.

Devesh Logendran a social media researcher sent a screenshot of this new feature to TNW’s Matt Navarra. When asked, Facebook confirmed that they are testing a new feature for quick and easy account recoveries. They also mentioned that “This optional feature is available only on devices you’ve already used to log in. It is another step, alongside two-factor authentication via SMS, that we are taking to make sure account owners can confirm their identity.”

If this new verification tool proves consistently helpful for users and is not manipulated by the hackers, then chances are that Facebook might possibly roll it out for more people.

Facebook has introduced many new ways for unlocking accounts. Like asking for the photo recognition of your friends to prove your identity or by allowing you to assign many “trusted friends” who receive a code which you can ask them for unlocking the locked Facebook account.

In the past, Facebook has received some criticism for its facial recognition feature for photo tagging options but this newly introduced tool would only be helping you secretly. This should not bother you about privacy issues although anything related to bio-metric data can cause a stir in the way people think. But if this feature could help you gain access back to your hacked or locked account then for sure many people won’t mind using their faces as identity verification for Facebook.
