Facebook is a social media application that has connected people and created a global society. This might sound cliché but not for Jehan Sultana and her family. Facebook became the bridge for uniting Sultana with her family after sixty long years.
The story of this Kashmiri lady is inspiring and motivating. She was eight years old when forced in to a marriage and then she disappeared for 60 years. Now the innovative use of social media reunited her with her dear ones.
Her relations thought her long dead until one of the son of Sultana contacted Rahimuddin, a resident of Kandaru village in Lower Dir through his Facebook page ‘Lower Dir, KPK, Pakistan.’ The son of Sultana, Zia ul haq messaged Rahmiuddin requesting him to find his mother’s family that lied in Gorkoi Village, Upper Dir.

Rahimmudin then made efforts to find her family and finally located his brother. The long lost siblings reunited through IMO video chat app. The level of shock for Sultana, when she saw her family was immense.
Now she is physically escorted from Wagah border to Kandaru, being overjoyed at meeting with her blood after ages of separation.
These real stories and the role of social media in them show that social media is not just about posting photos and creating profiles. It can also change lives for the better.
