Facebook today announced that it’s going to take some action against problematic groups. The company shared a list of changes that the company would impose on individuals and communities who repeatedly break its rules.
The one change that is enlisted is a new notification people will get when they join groups with past Community Standards violations. Then the company will limit invite notifications from those groups. The company said:
We think these measures as a whole, along with demoting groups in recommendations, will make it harder to discover and engage with groups that break our rules,
Facebook will also put more pressure on moderators to take their responsibilities seriously. In groups with “substantial” violations from the members, admins and moderators will have to temporarily approve all posts.
Facebook will also impose new restrictions on especially problematic For individuals violating the policies in groups won’t be able to post or comment in any of them between seven or 30 days.
The company will not recommend civic and political groups to users globally. This policy change was put in place ahead of the 2020 US presidential election.
