Facebook Video Service Launched Worldwide

Facebook has rolled out Watch Video service worldwide. The service was already available in the USA for over a year and now it has been launched globally.

Facebook in a statement said, “We are supporting publishers and creators globally in two critical areas: helping them to make money from their videos on Facebook and better understand how their content is performing,”

Fidji Simo, Facebook’s vice president for video said, “We designed the product not just in a mindless consumption but in order to get people engaged.”

As the video viewing habits of people shifted from television to online medium, Facebook decided to launch its video service called Watch. In the era of the internet, people prefer Netflix, YouTube, and Hulu over radio & television. Thus Facebook decided to launch a video service with original shows. Facebook also announced new interactive games, shows, and quizzes that will initiate from the platform.

Simo said, “Contents that we fund are a very small part of the contents available on Watch.”

Facebook is hoping that people will watch the videos made by the users themselves.

Simo added, “We remain confident that monetization will help create.”

Facebook is planning to invest $2 billion in new content for Watch. It is nothing compared to Netflix or YouTube but it is a start.
