Fairphone 5 arrives with 8 years of software support

Fairphone is a Dutch-based smartphone company. Recently, the company has debuted its new smartphone namely the Fairphone 5. The new smartphone is quite interesting for several reasons. Fairphone 5 comes with 8 years of software updates. The distinguishing attribute of Fairphone is manufacturing easily repairable and environmentally friendly smartphones.

The Fairphone 5 is more repairable

The Fairphone 5 is more advanced and has better specs than the previous versions, although it is not a high-end smartphone. The company worked in collaboration with the Fair Cobalt Alliance, the Alliance for Responsible Mining, and the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance. Fairphone 5 is made from zinc, copper, aluminum, tin, nickel, magnesium, indium, and plastics. All of them are recycled materials. The 2,000 workers who assemble the phone and its parts, including the battery, vibration monitor, and so forth, also receive a living wage bonus. There are currently eleven modules in the phone, all of which are easily swappable.

Specs of the Fairphone 5

The smartphone features a flat display. It is a 6.46-inch AMOLED display with a refresh rate of 90Hz. It comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The storage is expandable up to 2TB via a microSD card slot. The bottom bezel of the smartphone is thicker than the rest of the smartphone. It has a centered display camera hole. The Fairphone 5 features two cameras on the back that are placed inside a triangle camera island. Fairphone selected Qualcomm’s QCM6490, an enterprise-oriented chip, that ought to be a Snapdragon 778G equivalent. By the way, the phone has IP55 certification for water and dust protection.

Fairphone 5 has three 50MP cameras

The Fairphone 5 features three 50MP cameras. One 50MP is presented on the front, whereas two cameras are placed on the back. The primary camera features Sony’s IMX800 sensor, whereas the ultrawide one uses the Sony IMX858 sensor. All three cameras can record 4K videos. The smartphone is powered by a 4,200mAh battery. There is no information about the charging speed. The Fairphone 5 doesn’t support wireless charging. Other connectivity features include support for Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6E (6GHz). It comes in three different colors, i.e., Gray, Sky Blue, and transparent, with a price tag of €699.
