Fan project impresses with breathtaking UE5 graphics

Hailed by many as one of the best video games in history, Ocarina of Time continues to delight over 25 years after its release. There is now an impressive new video of a fan remake in the current Unreal Engine 5.5.

Fan is working on a breathtaking remake

With The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Nintendo achieved a true masterpiece in 1998. The role-playing game set new standards and, despite its age, still plays passably in its original version today. This fact hasn’t stopped one fan from starting a project to modernize the RPG.

CryZENx, who says he is a game designer, programmer, animator and content creator all in one, is working on a version of Ocarina of Time in Unreal Engine 5.5. Eight years ago, he began rebuilding the game in Epic’s engine. Now the Zelda fan has on his YouTube channel uploaded a new video showing the current progress of the project.

Modern graphics for a classic game

Above all, you can see the village of Kakariko, known from the game. The lighting effects in the 30-minute video, which are displayed using Unreal Engine’s Lumen technology, are particularly impressive. AI upscaling is also already being used. Later, the game will also support DLSS, FSR and real-time ray tracing.

No intervention from Nintendo yet

Although CryZENx has been working on the project for several years and has since published regular updates on its development status on the Internet, Nintendo does not seem to be bothered by the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. The Japanese are usually quick to nip even such fan projects in the bud.

The fact that you haven’t reported yet doesn’t mean anything. It also took years for action to be taken against Nintendo content in Garry’s Mod on Steam. However, a 3D remake of the 40-year-old The Legend of Zelda has so far been spared. If you would like to support the CryZENx project, you can do so via Patreon do. The latest information on the progress of the remake can also be found on the Discord server of the maker.
