Feature phones: Nokia brings back the 8210 with LTE
With the Nokia 8210 4G, 5710 XpressAudio, and 2660 Flip, HMD Global launches three new feature phones that inspire nostalgia, especially with the 8210. The new generation of the phone, released more than 20 years ago, is the first with LTE and dual SIM. In addition, it serves as an MP3 player and FM radio. Launched in Paris on October 8, 1999, the 8210 was the smallest and lightest Nokia phone when released in November.
Some 23 years later, the new Nokia 8210 4G is no longer 101.5 × 44.5 × 17.4 mm, but 131.25 × 56.15 × 13.8 mm. As part of the so-called Originals family, the new model will be launched in August for 79.99 euros or 79.99 CHF in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland in the colors blue, red, and sand. The new model does not support the previous Xpress-on covers, which were available at Nokia in six colors at the time. Nokia 8210 4G
Making calls in the LTE network
The Nokia 8210 4G is a feature phone and is therefore limited to basic functions such as calling and texting or playing games such as the legendary Snake. Thanks to the added support for LTE, you can not only make calls in the GSM network but also use VoLTE, which offers significantly better voice quality. In addition, the phone can be used as an MP3 player, provided a microSD card with the correct files is used.
The 128 MB memory only accommodates the Series 30+ OS and the integrated “apps”. These include an FM radio and a camera that offers 0.3 megapixels. The display is on a 2.8-inch display with QVGA resolution (320 × 240). HMD Global also advertises a very long battery life but gives no concrete figures. According to the manufacturer, the replaceable 1,450 mAh battery is sufficient for “longer calls” and allows “week-long” standby times.
Nokia 5710 XpressAudio hides headphones
The Nokia 5710 XpressAudio is not a revival of an earlier phone, but also belongs to the category of feature phones: as a special feature, it hides a true wireless headset on the back and reveals them through a sliding mechanism. The 5710 measures 138.9 × 58.85 × 18.5 mm and also runs on a 2.8-inch QVGA display with a Unisoc T107 processor and Series 30+ OS. The hardware and software are the same as the 8210 4G, except that the 1,450 mAh battery on the 5710 also charges the TWS headphones.
The Nokia 5710 XpressAudio should already today for 89.99 euros or 89.99 CHF in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland in the colors white/red and black/red. The headphones are included.
Nokia 2660 Flip clamshell phone
HMD Global also packs the same hardware and software into a clamshell phone called the Nokia 2660 Flip, which as a special feature offers a second display with 1.77 inches and QQVGA resolution (160 × 120) for status messages on the outside. The 0.3MP camera is on the front so can be used for selfies, but when it’s open it faces backward like the other models and is supported by an LED flash. All three feature phones are equipped identically in areas such as memory, FM radio, MP3 player, or Micro-USB 2.0. Nokia 2660 Flip.
The Nokia 2660 Flip is only planned in black and will cost 99.99 euros/CHF. ComputerBase has received information about this item from HMD Global under NDA. The only requirement was the earliest possible publication date.
