Firmware Update Crashes HP OfficeJet Printers

A software update currently means that numerous HP printers can no longer be used. A firmware update released in early May caused some OfficeJet models to crash. Owners of affected devices will need to contact support for a replacement.

A bug has wormed its way into the latest firmware for several HP OfficeJet 902x models. As soon as the update has been installed on the respective devices, the printers refuse to work. After a restart, only a blue screen with the error code 83C0000B is displayed. Since the touchscreen can no longer be operated, the device cannot be reset to factory settings.

The update will be installed automatically

According to Bleeping Computer, the HP OfficeJet Pro 9022e, Pro 9025e, Pro 902eAll-in-One, and Pro 9025e All-in-One are affected by the bug. The faulty update will be downloaded automatically. Anyone who owns a corresponding model should temporarily disconnect the printer from the network. HP is said to be already working on a solution, so the rollout of the update should be stopped soon.

Customers with affected devices should contact support. The manufacturer has not yet made a public statement about the problems and has not announced how many users are struggling with the error. So far there doesn’t seem to be a way to fix the firmware. Affected devices should therefore probably be completely replaced.
