Apple is preparing to launch new over-ear headphones. Leaked retailer data reveals comprehensive details about the Beats 360. The model offers replaceable pads, improved ANC and protection against splash water from all sides.
In Cupertino, they are apparently planning to expand the range to include Beats 360 over-ear headphones. The first technical specifications and design features have now become public through early entries at British online retailers. The entries were quickly removed, but showed innovations compared to the previous Beats Studio Pro model. The headphones have a more rounded shape and use mesh fabric on the ear cups, which is visually reminiscent of the AirPods Max. A central feature is modularity: both the ear cushions and the headband can be removed and replaced.
Like users on Reddit documented, the manufacturer delivers the devices with Performance Knit padding as standard. Alternatively, softer UltraPlush variants should be available. The system allows users to change sweaty pads after training or to customize the color of the device. According to the database entries, four color variants are planned for market launch: Black, Cloud, Pink and Sky. References to other colors such as volt and navy have so far only appeared in connection with separately available upholstery sets.
The Beats 360 are the brand’s first over-ear headphones to receive IPX4 certification. The classification certifies protection against splash water and sweat from all sides. However, complete immersion is not possible. Operation is via physical buttons on the earcups, including a volume rocker and a multifunction button.
In the area of acoustics, the leaked data also shows technical adjustments. The Active Noise Canceling, or ANC for short, is said to work up to 1.75 times stronger than its predecessor, Beats Studio Pro. The models also support personalized 3D audio with dynamic head capture. An algorithm in combination with beamforming microphones is used for telephone calls. Regarding the battery life, the entries do not give exact hourly values, but indicate all-day use with ANC activated.
The headphones can be folded flat for transport and stored in the included bag. A charging plug and a USB-C cable are missing from the scope of delivery. The starting price in the USA is said to be $299. Compatibility is available for Apple and Android devices. An official release date is still pending.
