FritzOS 8.24: DSL FritzBox and 2 repeaters receive a fresh beta update

Fritz is once again distributing fresh beta firmware from his laboratory. This time updated test versions of FritzOS 8.24 are available for a router and two repeaters. The updates fix several small bugs and improve stability.

Fresh laboratories for routers and repeaters

After Fritz had reduced the update frequency somewhat since the beginning of the month, the laboratory program is now slowly picking up speed again. Just yesterday, two cable routers received fresh beta firmware in the form of FritzOS 8.24. Now there is an update for three more devices. So now it’s the turn of another FritzBox and several FritzRepeaters. You will also receive an update to a new test version of FritzOS 8.24which takes care of minor bug fixes and brings the infamous stability improvements. Specifically, a new laboratory is available for the following models:

• FritzBox 7690 – Version: 8.24-132439
• Fritz repeater 1700 – Version: 8.24-132441
• Fritz Repeater 2700 – Version: 8.24-132446

Small bug fixes

With the FritzBox 7690, problems related to the “Zero Wait DFS” function are fixed. What specific problems these are, however, remains unclear. Fritz does not provide a more precise description. In addition, there are the stability improvements already mentioned, about which the manufacturer, in keeping with tradition, does not provide any more detailed information.

The changelog for the repeaters is also short. This fixes an issue in both models where the diagnostics feature in the user interface could incorrectly display a missing internet connection. Secondly, an error has been corrected in which an incorrect operating mode may have been set when connecting several Fritz repeaters one after the other. Lastly, WiFi stability is improved.

installation

Users who already use a beta version of FritzOS on their router or repeaters can have the new update automatically searched for via the device user interface. However, if you switch from a stable firmware version to a laboratory version, you will find all the files you need on the as usual Laboratory website from Fritz for download.

After downloading, the image file contained in the zip archive is selected and installed via the router’s user interface under “System” > “Update” and the “FritzOS file” tab. If you are installing a beta for the first time, you should also make sure that the latest stable version of FritzOS is running on the device. It is also recommended that all users create a backup of the device settings. In the event that problems arise, this makes restoring the device to its previous state much easier.
