Galaxy S20 Users Facing Display Failures

Apparently, there is a problem with the displays on some models of the Samsung Galaxy S20 series that can cause the display to fail on an apparently quite small number of devices. It is still unclear how many users are affected and what the causes are.

As the colleagues from Android Police report, it can happen with some Samsung Galaxy S20 models that the screen only glows white or green, but can no longer display any content. The problem is heralded by the appearance of so-called “scan lines”.

First white haze, then green spots, then ‘Green Screen of Death’

A YouTube video can be seen how the screen shows a kind of “frosted glass” effect behind which the actual content is displayed. In addition, thin horizontal lines can be seen over the entire screen surface. In addition, green spots of varying intensity that can be opened later appear before a complete green coloration occurs and the display no longer shows any recognizable content.

So far it is not known what the cause of this phenomenon is. It is conceivable, however, that it is not a software error. Instead, components of the affected devices could suffer a defect, be it connecting cables or plugs or even the display itself. Samsung has only sporadically commented on the topic in its forums, where some users are now reporting similar problems with their devices.

According to the current state of knowledge, the problem of the “Green Screen of Death”, so dubbed by the colleagues, occurs especially with the Galaxy S20 + and the Galaxy S20 Ultra. Since the two devices have been on the market for almost 1.5 years, the defect in the display is in many cases no longer covered by the manufacturer’s guarantee. For customers from some countries, this means that a display exchange is due, which is associated with the corresponding costs.
