Galaxy S23 Ultra pioneering with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2

Recently, Galaxy S23 Ultra by Samsung made an appearance on an online benchmark. This is quite quick as the Galaxy S23 has just hit the market. The model number for the forthcoming Galaxy flagship is SM-S918U. It was recently showcased on a benchmarking platform known as Geekbench. The scores for the Geekbench of Galaxy S23 are equivalent to the vanilla model (SM-S911U).

Expectedly, both Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Ultra are powered by similar chipsets. It is codenamed Kalama and has Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 flagship processor. The octa-core CPU has:

  • four Cortex-A710 mid cores clocked at 2.80GHz
  • one ARM Cortex-X3 prime core clocked at 3.36GHz
  • three Cortex-A510 power-efficient cores clocked at 2.02GHz
  • Adreno 740 GPU

In addition to this, several other improvements will also be featured. One is the improved NPU [neural processing unit].

According to the listing on Geekbench Galaxy S23 Ultra is reported to have 8GB of RAM which is similar to the base variant. The expectations are that Samsung should introduce the smartphone with multiple storage options as well as 12GB RAM. The latest smartphone is expected to launch with the Android 13 already on board. Android 13 is reported to have the One UI 5.1. The preliminary Android 13 release is outfitted with One UI 5.0. It is supposed to roll out to Galaxy S22 series as well later by this month.

Concerning the benchmark scores, single core, as well as multi-core tests, wee performed. Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra scored 1,521 and 4,689 scores in single and multi-core tests respectively. These scores align with the ones scored by the Vanilla Model. These are 1,524 and 4,597 respectively. In reference, the Geekbench scores for Galaxy S23 Ultra are around 1,200 and 3,300 for single and multi-core tests. As of the numbers, it is obvious that the successor of Galaxy S23 Ultra is achieving better. So, there is still some room for improvement.

It is expected that the upcoming Galaxy S23 Ultra will make its availability all around the globe. Though, Samsung may plan to keep the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 exclusive to the Galaxy S23 series. This might be due to the poor performance of the Exynos solutions. Though, there is no official confirmation yet.
