Shortly before the next Unpacked event on July 22nd, official promo images of the new Samsung smartwatches appeared. The Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 rely on new processors, brighter displays and significantly larger batteries.
After unofficial renderings and a number of details about specifications and prices have been available in recent weeks, official press photos of Samsung’s upcoming smartwatches are now available shortly before the planned presentation on July 22nd. The image material confirms the design and the previously mentioned details about the Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. A central aspect of the new model generation is the change in processor architecture. Samsung is saying goodbye to its own Exynos chipsets and instead installing the Snapdragon Wear Elite from Qualcomm. The chip, manufactured using the three-nanometer process, has an integrated neural processing unit that is responsible for local AI calculations.
Like the well-known leaker Evan Blass (via Android Authority) reports, the leaked marketing materials show the Galaxy Watch 9 in three color variants: cream, silver and graphite. The images also demonstrate advanced health functions for everyday life. These include precise sleep apnea detection, detailed energy and sleep scores for daily recovery, and a digital running trainer.
With the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, the hardware upgrades are even more extensive. According to the preliminary information, the battery capacity increases from 590 to 800 milliamperes hours. At the same time, the case is made of titanium and is twelve percent thinner compared to its predecessor. An IP69K certification provides protection against dust and water. The watch appears in a titanium look with an olive green strap and in black.
According to the documents, the AMOLED display of the Ultra variant achieves a peak brightness of 5000 nits. This represents a significant increase over the 3000 nits of the first generation. One advantage of the brighter screen is better readability in direct sunlight. Whether this is at the expense of battery life depends on the automatic brightness control. The wearables will be presented at the announced Samsung event this week along with the new folding smartphones Galaxy Z Flip 8 and Z Fold 8.
